Sookie asks Lorelai when her parents last visited, and it is confirmed that this is the first time Richard and Emily have been to Lorelai’s house in Stars Hollow. They visited a few times at the Independence Inn when Rory was a baby, but not otherwise.

This has always annoyed me, because Lorelai implies her parents didn’t *want* to visit her, when the truth was Lorelai hadn’t ever invited them.
But Lorelai needed to keep up her story to the people in her “Stars Hollow world” her parents had been neglectful and horribly abusive, and her leaving at 17 – 18 years old with her year-old daughter was justified.
