LANE: It’s getting frustrating. I mean, there’s so many great songs that have been written post-Cobain, but try and convince Zach of that. I mean, he’s impossible, stubborn, and just a tad intellectually challenged, in case you haven’t noticed.
Rock star Kurt Cobain, previously discussed. Kurt Cobain died in 1994, so Zach apparently isn’t interested in any music after that date. Lane complains about Zach being stubborn and stupid; later she marries him.

Yeah, the Lane/Zach relationship has never made any sense to me whatsoever. I still mourn Dave to this day.
I guess Zach has a couple of sort of redeeming moments, but mostly he’s just awful and I can’t for the life of me understand what Lane would see in him. It feels like lazy writing. Adam Brody left fot The O.C. and the whole story arch had to happen with someone else and they just wrote in the bands other guitarist instead. I’ve always hated it, I wanted so much more for Lane.

Agreed! Dave was written as Lane’s perfect match, so nobody else was ever going to cut it.
